Weekend Project: How to Make an Altered Clipboard

Looking for an easy project for the weekend?...Try making altered clipboards.  They are very simple to make and you can use your leftover paper scraps from other projects.

Let’s get this project started! For my project I used a regular size clipboard, coordinating paper, and Modge Podge.

I painted the edges of my clipboards first, allow them to dry.  I then trace over the boards to get a paper pattern.
Then I apply the Modge Podge to the back of the paper, I normally use a sponge brush because it makes it a lot easier to spread the modge Podge ( it's like a thick glue).

Place the glued paper to your clipboard.  Apply pressure to the paper while smoothing out the wrinkles or bubbles.

Before I attach my embellishments I do a simple layout of where everything will be positioned.

Last thing…Place your embellishments and you’re DONE!!

The Paper Book Vase

If you like recycling old books here is a fun project I ran across. I’ve done shaped books as journals but never a paper book vase. Here is a picture and the link to the project page.

Altered Recipe Book

Here is my newest project an Altered Recipe Book.  This book will hold all of my family’s favorite recipes. Now my recipes are all in one place. I only have 7 pages done, I plan to finish more within the next few weeks.

**Oops! Just wanted to show how the front of the book looked, please realize that the letter L fell off the word family while taking the pic.

Enjoy- Beverly

Stage Two: Altered Journal Basic Steps

Stage 2: I’ve attached all embellishments to the front and back cover. I have also added a knob as a fancy way to open the journal. On the inside of the front and back cover I used book pages as the paper. The next stages will the inside pages.

The Altered Composition Book Swap:

About our swap:  Altering can include painting, embossing, collaging, and rubber stamping. Altered areas include front and back cover and some individual pages. You should decide on a theme for your  altered book.

The timeline for this project is 3 weeks after receiving your package. To get you started here is an example of one of mine.

Working on an altered journal book, should be completed by the end of the week.  Wal-Mart has composition notebooks on sale.

Starting point: painted the cover, glued the lace on the front and back side and added a few cutouts.

These altered notebooks are very easy for anyone to make.  I was out last weekend looking for new ideas for a craft project. I went to a local antique market and saw some cute altered spiral notebooks.  The cost of the altered notebooks was only $4.50 but I decided to come back to my studio and make my own.  I bought some mini notebooks for $1.00 each at the dollar store used my own supplies and here is the outcome.
